Testimonials
I know there is so much controversy between chiropractic and medical care, but if it were not for chiropractic I would still be in pain. A car accident left me with constant lower back pain. I tried everything from painkillers to preparing to have surgery. I heard stories from my friends who had surgery and to this day wish they never had it. So I decided to go to a chiropractor before the surgery and I am so thankful that I did. My back pains are gone and I am living my life to the fullest and pain free.

Myth # 1 Chiropractors are not Real Doctors

Chiropractors have the same level of education as medical doctors, and are licensed as primary health care doctors.  The difference between chiropractors and medical doctors has to do with how they treat the human body.  Where medical doctors rely on external chemical compounds to treat ailments, chiropractors focus on the structural correction of the internal conditions, which causes the ailments in the first place.  In most cases, the internal problem causes the external symptom.  Because of this, chiropractic is highly effective in treating a wide range of conditions without resorting to medication.  Because of the potentially harmful side-effects of drugs and the fact that they only cover symptoms, Doctors of Chiropractic choose not to prescribe medication.

Myth #2 Chiropractic Adjustments are Dangerous

This is just wrong, as a matter of fact; you are hundreds of times more likely to suffer an adverse reaction to taking an aspirin than you are from having a chiropractic adjustment.  Most people don’t realize that there are more than 100,000 adverse reactions each year from taking a simple aspirin, while there are fewer than 100 adverse reactions to chiropractic adjustments.  When you consider that there are over 3 million people being adjusted in one year, the risk from being adjusted is vanishing small.  Insurance is based on risk; the higher the risk, the higher your premiums.  Chiropractic Physicians pay the lowest malpractice premiums of any Physician.  Obstetricians, Neurosurgeon and Anesthesiologists pay the highest premiums.  Now, which one is the safest?

At Coastal Chiropractic, Dunedin, Florida we add the highest level of safety to your treatment with the Impulse IQ adjusting instrument, a technological phenomenon in the Chiropractic profession.

Myth #3 Once you Start Chiropractic You Must Continue Forever

While this is not strictly true, it is important to remember that ALL doctors continue to treat you for the rest of your life, at least ideally.  For example, how often do you go to your dentist?  Is it not true that your dentist will keep scheduling visits even when you have no tooth pain?  We all learned at an early age the value of routine maintenance for our teeth, but for most of us, we never learned the importance of the same type of routine maintenance for the rest of the body.

We tell our patients, "you will continue your chiropractic care as long as you want to be healthy, it's entirely up to you."

Myth #4 Medical Doctors don’t like Chiropractors

For the most part there is little animosity towards Chiropractors from the medical community.  Maybe a few Medical Doctors don’t like
some Chiropractors for one reason or another, just as some Chiropractors don't like some Medical Doctors.  As a matter fact more and more Medical Doctors and Nurses are being treated by Chiropractors every year.  Chiropractors are now on staff at many major hospitals, the military, working at insurance companies and work side by side with medical doctors in private clinics.

Personally, we have several Nurses, MD family members and MDs under our care.  We believe that most medical personel who don't recommend chiropractic care, are not informed on the benefits of its natural healing approach.  We tell all of our patients to make sure they tell their Medical Doctors about the excellent results they are getting with their chiropractic care.

Myth #5 People can Adjust Themselves by “Cracking” Their Neck or Back

It would be almost impossible to adjust oneself in a way to free any fixations or correct any subluxations.  Some people can get their neck or back to “pop”, but this usually only affects the segments that are not the true culprit and over time can lead to other problems.  Just as you wouldn’t perform surgery on yourself, its best to leave the adjustments of your back and neck to the professional chiropractor.  Even professionals cannot adjust themselves.

You can beat on your front tires with a sledge hammer, but you cannot do a proper front-end alignment.

Myth #5 Spinal Adjustments Hurt

Many patients feel instant relief immediately after their treatments, for obvious reasons patients suffering from severe  neck or back pain may experience some discomfort, for most patients this in not the case, in fact, most patients look forward to their chiropractic treatments.

With the state-of-the-art Impulse IQ instrument, we have actually had some patients fall asleep during a few-minute treatment session.

Most children laugh or giggle during their adjustments.

Myth #6 My Problem Will Most Likely Go Away On its Own

Nothing could be further than the truth.  Your symptoms may wax and wane, however, the underlying cause of your problem will most likely worsen.  Just like the straw that broke the camel's back, it's just a matter of time before your body can no longer compensate, adapt and fight off the underlying cause, that's when your body says "NO" and shuts down.

Don't delay any longer. Call us today.  (727) 733-1601.
