Children and Chiropractic

Children also benefit from regular spinal exams!

We see Lots of Children and they Absolutely Love What We Do!

children

It seems children never run out of energy, they go all day long running, jumping, and playing hard.  Sometimes, all this physical activity puts stress on the spinal nerves; this may lead to lowering a child’s resistance and open the door for many illnesses.

The slightest spinal misalignment can cause a child to suffer from adult- type problems, such as headaches, back pain, poor concentration, irritability, etc. For most children, a simple, painless spinal exam will allow Dr. Drew to find and treat, if necessary, any misalignments.

Children experience many falls, often several times a day.  Falls while learning how to walk or ride a bike, playing at the park or in the neighborhood or during organized team sports, are a source of microtrauma to the spine and can often cause a whiplash injury to the neck and upper back, without their head ever hitting the ground.

This is a type of physical stress on the spine will cause misaligned, fixated or lock-up joints or vertebral subluxations.  These subluxations may go undetected for weeks, months or even years without chiropractic exams. In fact, the very first subluxation can occur during the birth process.

The Birth Process, Newborns & Infants

Even with the smoothest birth process, the baby travels through the birth canal with a great amount of pressure exerted on their newly formed spine.  In a more invasive delivery, with twisting, turning, pulling or vacuum suction on the baby's skull, subluxations to the neck and upper back are extremely common.  A new born baby will not complain of headaches, neck and back pain, however, they may have a weakened immune system, asthma, allergies, colds, flues, fevers, ear infections, colic, digestive problems, constipation, irritability or lack of sleep.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is the most important time for a woman to maintain a healthy spine and nervous, ensuring a smooth pregnancy and delivery.

Our expectant chiropractic moms bring their newborns in for their first chiropractic exam immediately after birth, as they understand the importance of proper spinal function and nerve flow.

Fevers And Chiropractic

Frequent fevers are another sign of immune system weakness that we can help.  When your child's primary immune defenses are suppressed, the body's last line of defense, fever, kicks in.  For 100 years, chiropractic has promoted allowing a fever to run its course.  Giving your child tylenol, aspirin, motrin or ibuprophen has many risks & dangers, while monitoring and keeping your child comfortable with cool washcloths on the forehead or chest is highly safe & effective.  For instance, if you are on a camping trip and need drinking water from a stream, you would boil the water to kill any bacteria.  If every time the water started to boil, you lowered the heat, the water would never boil and the bacteria would never die.  Well, it's the same with your child's fever.  After years of recommending drugs to lower your child's fever, the  American Academy of Pediatrics has agreed with the chiropractic profession in not giving your child drugs for fevers, eliminating the possible inherent side effects and dangers.

Over the past 20 years, Dr. Drew has been called to many homes in the middle of the night to treat children suffering with fevers.  His gentle, pain-free treatments boost nerve and immune function, allowing a fever to spike and break, often within minutes.

Your child does not get a fever as a result of a lack of anti-biotics in their system.  A fever is a response to an underlying problem, when the immune system is suppressed, often by spinal nerve impingement.

Scoliosis And Chiropractic

Scoliosis abnormal spinal curvatures respond very well with our special corrective procedures.  The standard medical approach is to "monitor" and wait until it worsens to the pont of surgery.  While bracing, electronic muscle stimulation and exercises have failed, our unique methods have been highly successful. Scoliosis will not improve on its own and will only worsen with time.  The younger your child begins corrective chiropractic care, the greater the probability of correction, eliminating the physical and health effects that naturally follow a scoliosis.  Remember, "As the twig is bent, so grows the tree".  Our treatment helps your child grow healthy, straight & tall.

So Much More...

Chiropractic Care for children is much more than just spinal exams. Your Chiropractor can also examine and monitor the growth of your child’s body, address important nutritional needs, offer correct exercise programs, and help to prepare your child for a healthy adulthood.

In fact, our children love getting adjusted so much, they race to the adjusting table to be first in line for their adjustments.  Children under chiropractic care respond remarkably fast, as they do not have years of ware-and-tare on their bodies and, in most cases, they are not full of the chemical toxins that adults tend to have.

At 12 years-old, suffering chronic fevers, ear infections and migraine headaches, Dr. Drew received his first chiropractic adjustment.  Since then, he has not had a fever, ear infection or a migraine.  Dr. Drew says, "I only wish that I had started sooner."  You are never too young for chiropractic care.
