Dieting

Proper Nutrition

Dr. Drew is trained in nutrition and its positive or negative affects on your health and well-being.

To us, nutrition comprises more than simply eating three meals a day. The chiropractic profession views nutrition as the fuel needed to maintain your health, and includes the vitamins, minerals, and tissue building quality of what you eat. Hippocrates, the "Father of Modern Medicine" said, "Let food be your medicine & medicine be your food."

Patient's are always asking us, "what diet do you recommend?"  Let's get this out of the way, "Diets Don't Work." We don't recommend any diet. The weight-loss industry is a multi-billion dollar/year industry and the obesity levels in the USA are higher than ever before.  Weight control is about making informed decisions and lifestyle modification, and that is what we teach.

Remember when we used to say, "You are what you eat?"  Well, that is still true today.  There are inflammatory foods that create inflammatory reactions and trigger pain mechanisms in the body, especially in the knees, hips, shoulders, hands and feet.  There are anti-inflammatory foods that reduce inflammation in the body and inhibit pain mechanisms.  If we were to recommend a "diet" it would be more of a lifestyle or the Mediterranean Diet:  Lots of fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, legumes, olive oil and lean meats (anti-inflammatory foods).

As a new patient, we will review your current nutritional profile and, if necessary, advise you on any modifications that need to be made based on your current state of well-being.
